Rooster Camouflage

Wednesday 17 October 2012

I have developed a theory about Tristan.

I think he's undercover.

I don't think he's a rooster.  I don't even think he's a boy.  I don't even think he's a chicken.

I think he's a 16 year old girl from Brisbane.  He gives himself away with his upward inflection.  Rrr-rrr-rrr-rrrrrRR???  He says.  And then it's like he remembers himself, and he reverts back to the standard Rrr-rrr-rrr-RRRrrrr.

Hmmm.

I'm loving my chook-chooks.  They are quite companionable little things.   Late Sunday afternoon I planted seedlings into the veggie patch, and they were quite happy to hang around, digging into things, being a bit chatty.  Luckily the chicken wire went up after only one bok choy leaf was eaten.

  2. Cool chook-chooks. Is there an Isolde? Does she have an inflection, and is it curable?:)

  3. Oh, Isolde would be perfect. Please tell me you did name one of the hens Isolde, Sue. ;-) Your chooks look healthy! Does Tristan have his spurs yet? Androgyny amongst the domesticated fowl?

  4. You know, my inner rebellious 14 year old has resolved, upon each subsequent query whether one of the hens shall be called Isolde, to decide to NOT call one of the hens Isolde.

Childish, I know. They are Patty and Selma :P

Late this afternoon I was lying on a rug in the backyard (which is not an easy accomplishment on the side of a hill), and the hens were hanging around and clucking and brrrring and they were so cute to watch. And one of the hens came right up to me, sooo close. I think she was spun out that my face was so close to hers. I was a bit nervous that she might, like, go mad and peck my eyes out or something, haha :)

  6. Haha :) Isolde was not worth of Tristan anyway, so off with her. Patty and Selma, I love it.

That moment sounds sweet indeedy. :)

  7. It was a pretty obvious comment, but sometimes I just can't resist the mischief. You and the chooks have a great connection going there:)
