Just came across this on my cousin's Facebook page. I'm wondering how many northern hemisphereans have heard of the lyrebird? They are the most amazing imitators of other birds ... and anything else they may hear in their worlds, as you can hear for yourself :)
There are plenty of them around the Dandenong Ranges where I have my art therapy sessions. Their own song is pretty as well but add this sort of repertoire and I'm sure they must be roping in the broads no worries :)
God love David Attenborough. The love he has for the natural world brims forth on his face; beautiful man.
Oh... my... Goddess!
ReplyDeleteI'd heard of the lyre bird but didn't know anything about them. This is amazing! Imitating the camera and everything. Oh I'm going to have to send this clip to everyone I know.
And yes, David Attenborough - a life well lived.
Im in love with this lyre bird...Im going to have to go looking for him! (yep, staling a bird, just when you thought it couldnt get worse!) haha! You're right though, he must reel in those lyre gals
ReplyDeleteI've heard the name lyre bird, but had no idea he had these talents. We have the mockingbird in the States, but nothing like this. The sounds of the camera & car alarm ARE amazing to me. I would love living among lyre birds, but then think of my neighbor, who is a leaf blower fanatic. It would probably double my time of listening to that sound!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great introduction, Sue.
Tess - it is amazing, isn't it? It makes me laugh so - God loves to make us laugh :)
ReplyDeleteCloudbusting - thanks for posting it! I watched this three times last night :) Stalking birds now, huh? :) Probably safer, LOL
Sherry - oh, yeah, now there's a thought - those damn stupid bloody leaf blowers. Wouldn't mix with lyrebrids too well :) Maybe something more like an orchestra, or a choir, or the sea would be good :)

The variety of sounds is simply amazing. I'd heard of them but never heard their calls... and no, we have nothing that compares here.
ReplyDeleteI do hope for anyone in the neighbourhood that they aren't a nocturnal bird. I can't imagine trying to sleep through 2 or 3 of them competing for a sheila.
Haha, no, I'm almost positive they're not nocturnal, Norm. Imagine having a whole load of them making chainsaw noises outside your window :)
ReplyDeleteOk I have to say the chainsaw impressed me!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to listen to this video again another time. I was distracted just now because my cat Bogart was trying to find out where all the birdie noises were coming from and climbed up to check out the speakers and the back of the computer. I am glad he didn't know the screen over!
ReplyDeleteHaha, go Bogart :) That's funny :)
ReplyDeleteWOW!!
